Thank you for listening to the Narrow Way Christian Ministries online church service, today’s sermon is a part of the understanding the Gospel Series, and I would like to start by reading a scripture from the book of (John 3:16-18) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The title of my sermon today is the Gospel made simple, and the purpose of this sermon is to explain the gospel of Jesus Christ in a simple and comprehendible manner. I will try in this sermon to give you a brief overview of what the Bible teaches, and where these teachings are found. Finally and most importantly, this sermon will tell you how you can receive God’s free gift of eternal life and salvation, and why only Jesus can save you. But first it is necessary to discuss in detail the fall of mankind. It says in the book of (Ecclesiastes 7:29) Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

I would like to start by saying, that the Bible teaches us in the book of (Genesis 1:1-25) that God created the world and everything in it, the Bible also teaches in the book (Genesis 1:26-31) that God created mankind in His own image. This means that God created human beings perfect and sinless, many people do not know, or even care to understand, that God’s original purpose for human beings, was for us to live in his presence forever, in a paradise without fear, pain, sickness, sadness or death. Before sin mankind had eternal life in a paradise, however God warned the first humans (Adam and Eve) not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which we now know they willingly did after the temptation of Satan.

This tree of knowledge set before man in the Garden of Eden gave them the ability to know good and evil, and therefore gave them the ability to decide what is good and what is evil. God warned them that having this ability would cause them to die, and this is recorded in the book of (Genesis 2:16-17) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

It is important to know that God gave mankind free will, and the first human creation used their free will to ignore God’s warnings, and believe the lies of Satan, who Jesus calls the Father of lies. The Bible teaches us that Satan lies and deceives the whole world, because he hates mankind, and resents that we are created in God’s image. Satan not only hates man, but he hates Jesus even more, and Satan wants to destroy mankind’s chances of eternal life in the presence of the Almighty God. After all he tricked Adam and Eve into eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. It was this first temptation by Satan that caused humans to disobey God, and break his law. The Bible tells us in the book of (1 John 3:4) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. This was the first sin in human history and this sin is the original cause of human death.

Because of man’s ability to know evil, people now freely commit sin, and because of this we are no longer suitable to dwell in the presence of the Almighty God, or to have access to the tree of life, and this is why God exiled man from his presence and this is clearly explained in the book of (Genesis 3:22-24) And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

Having the knowledge of good and evil causes us as humans to sin, which makes us unrighteous in God’s eyes, and our sin ultimately causes our death. It says in the book of (Romans 6:23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Now with this said, it is natural for a person to ask why they have to die for a sin that was committed thousands of years ago in the Garden of Eden, essentially they ask why me? The short answer to this question is, because humans all descend from God’s first creation (Adam and Eve) we are all born into sin, in fact the Bible says in the book of (Romans 5:12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

An easy way to explain this concept, is to say that sin is in human D.N.A. being born into sin is like being born with a terminal illness, eventually you will die from it. But this is not what God wants for you, God loves you and wants to give you a cure for the terminal illness of sin. But before we can talk about a cure for death, ask yourself this, have you ever done anything wrong? Have you ever lied or stolen something? If you answered yes you’re guilty of sin, and if you answered no, maybe you should think about it for a bit longer and reconsider your answer because it say in the book of (1 John 1:8-9) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Now If you believe the scripture just quoted, you have another chance for eternal life, the Bible tells us in the book of (Romans 3:23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God, but because God loves you, He wants to give you a chance to be saved from your sin and once again be able to live with Him in paradise. God wants to offer you a cure for the terminal illness of sin and give you eternal life, and this is the good new or gospel preached by our saviour Jesus Christ the righteous. But what is this good news preached by Jesus?

The good news is that God wants you to know Him, the Almighty God that created the world, wants you to be His child, the good news is that God is offering salvation and forgiveness for your sins, He is giving you another chance to have eternal life in His kingdom. The Bible teaches in the book of (John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I would now like to detail God’s plan to save you, which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, God sent his beloved Son Jesus to earth to be born and live as a human being (Matthew 1:18-25). While on earth Jesus was tempted by the Devil to sin, just like you and I (Luke 4:1-13). Jesus had to endure a life of temptation just like us, He had free will, but despite this fact, He overcame the temptations of this world, and He lived a sinless life. Jesus devoted His life to serving God the Father. God also wants us to be His sons and daughters, so He sent Jesus to show us how to become God's children. Jesus made the truth of God known to the world, and He is the perfect example for the children of God to follow. God the Father, gave Jesus power to perform many miracles, including giving sight to the blind, raising the dead, and many other things. He did this so the people who saw these miracles would not only believe the testimony of Jesus, but also so they would record it in the Bible for future generations to know.

God’s plan was not only to send his Son to be an example for us, but also to die for us, God sacrificed His Son as a ransom for our sins, and the Bible teaches in the book of (1 Timothy 2:5-6) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

After suffering death Jesus remained in the grave for three days and three nights, then He rose from the dead showing the world that he had power over death. This miracle shows us that we too can be raised to eternal life, and once again live in the presence of God, just like Jesus Christ. The death of Jesus Christ was payment in full for the sins of God’s creation. Because of Jesus dying on the cross, you now have the opportunity to have your sins forgiven, and be reconciled with God, and the Bible tells us what we must do to be forgiven, and have eternal life. It says in the book of (Romans 5:1) Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

The good news is that God so loved the world that He sent Jesus to suffer and die as payment for our sins, the Bible teaches that anyone who believes that Jesus died for their sins, and that He was raised to life again, will receive salvation and eternal life. The Bible also says that God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn it, but in order that through Him the world might be saved, it says that whoever believes in Jesus will not be condemned by God, but whoever believes not, is condemned already because they have not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. The Bible also says that we can only be saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, Salvation and eternal life can not be earned the Bible says in (Ephesians 2:8-9) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

The Bible is very clear when it states that we can not do anything to earn salvation or gain eternal life. It does not matter how many good things you do, or how nice of a person you are, you are still a sinner, you are guilty of breaking God’s laws, and unless you accept the sacrifice made by Jesus, you will be condemned. However if you do accept Jesus as your Lord and as your saviour, even though you will die in this world, you will one day go to heaven and be with God. The Bible teaches that God will restore all those who accept Jesus as their saviour to eternal life. True believers will be resurrected at the second coming of Jesus Christ. It teaches that Jesus will return to this world to rules as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and those who accept Christ will not only receive eternal life, but will also rule and reign with Jesus Christ, in the coming eternal Kingdom of God as described in (Daniel 7:18). Now if you believe the gospel I have just described, and that Jesus is the Son of God, and would you would like to accept Him as your saviour, and His death as payment for your sins, please remember these key points.

Step 1. We must know that we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God, {Romans 3:23} and we must also understand none of us are righteous not even one of us (Romans 3:10)

Step 2. We must understand that the result of our sin is death but God wants us to have eternal life (Romans 6:23)

Step 3. We must believe Christ died for our sins (Romans 5:8)

Step 4. We must confess verbally that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him to life in order to be saved (Romans 10:9-10)

It is very important to understand that salvation is received through faith alone in Jesus Christ, and we cannot trust in our own righteousness or good works. It is also essential that you know that once you are saved you are always saved, and nothing can take your salvation away, or separate you from the love of Jesus Christ. These foundational beliefs are the true meaning of faith in Jesus, and without them there is no salvation. If you believe the gospel and would like to call upon Jesus Christ I invite you to follow along with this simple prayer.

Dear God, I know I am a sinner and the result of my sin is death. But I want you to know that I am sorry and I believe that Jesus is your Son.I believe Jesus came to earth to live a sinless life and died for my sins. I believe you raised him to life and Jesus now sits at your right hand to make intercession for me. I accept the sacrifice Jesus made as payment for my sins and I want Jesus to be my Lord and to save me. Please God let me receive Jesus and give me your Holy Spirit, open my eyes to your wisdom through reading the Bible. Help me to understand your word and guide me towards your purpose for me. Thank you Father, I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
